INSURANCE

I am not sure where to post this, but I guess since there is body damage to my car this will have to do. I had a fire on the passenger side firewall of my 1992 1LE Z28 this saturday and Farmers wants to total it. Its really not that bad and I can do most of it myself, but I do not want to get rid of the car, nor have a salvage title. It has 14800 original miles and quite a bit of sentimental value. They want to total it if the repairs exeed 1600.00 Any thoughs, advice? Thanks.

Re: INSURANCE

call the insurance company and yell your head off. The car is easily worth over 10k, could sell for double that for that matter, being a really low mileage 92 1le car. Maybe pick a couple for sale adds for 1le cars and some history off here and ebay and present it to them. 1600 is absurd. thats less that a base model car with that mileage of that year is worth.

For that matter, if its not that bad and you can do the work yourself, why bother getting insurance involved? You premium will most likely go up and end up costing you most in the long run than it will cost to just fix it

Re: INSURANCE

Assuming that in the posting there was a zero left out and he ment 148000 miles on the car. I am dealing with insurance as well. If I would get into an accident and the car is totaled according to them they are only going to cover the KBB value of the car. Which my car in perfect condition is only worth 3500.00 according to them. I am having to get the car appraised and then the insurance will cover that amount instead. As it stands right now just at a quick look at the books the appraisal guy had I am at somewhere between 5900 and 9000. Maybe you can find a guy to appraise it and the insurance may accept that number instead.

there is a huge difference between 14800 miles and 148000 miles, so that we be the determining factor

easy way to deal with it. don't claim it.... other option. tell them to give you the 1600 and that ur gonna fix it. that way u will keep the car and will keep a clean title.i've done this b4... the least thing you wanna do is yell at the adjustor.

what ins you have i deal with different companies i'll ask around 4 u
