Sandblasting

Just wondering if it sounds like a good idea/price to get my underside and top side of the floor, and engine bay sandblasted and primed. my estimate was $850.

I got alot of sanding disks and some rust bullet just want to know about reccomendations and opinions. ill go and take some pics so you know what im working with.

well i cant get the pics to load on here but i posted them on my cardomain page 2

Re: Sandblasting

sandblasting leaves the metal textured and can warp the sheet metal with all the friction the sand creatives when it hit the surfaces. . . there are much better abrasives out there then sand. you could buy a sand blasting pot and all the media needed to do what you want for less then 3 times what you where quoted. just need a good air compressor.

Re: Sandblasting

yeah i was looking at that i can get a sandblaster and buy a compressor for around $500, if i can borrow a friends compressor then it would be about $100 plus materials.

Re: Sandblasting

any recomendations for cleaning out the wheel wells and undercarriage? i have a sander but it doesnt seem to work(its cheap) so i have been using a wire wheel and drill. this will however take FOREVER. is it just prolly because i bought a cheap sander?

Re: Sandblasting

I have used a angle grinder and coarse wire wheel to remove nearly everything the only thing that sucks is if you have a rubber coating then it gums up the wire. the only way to remove that is heat and a scraper or a scraping and keep spraying and soaking it with acetone, or invest in a sandblaster/soda. . . which brings you back to the organel topic of the thread. . . oh and i hate chemical strip.

Re: Sandblasting

i bought some of the aircraft stripper but am a little concerned. it says it needs chemical resistant brushes, did you guys use special brushes? also i couldnt find any brushes that said they were chemical resistant.

EDIT: WOW thats works awesome so awesome it eats through my gloves but other then that everything is just peeling off
