Filling in drilled holes on hatch?
So as you can see:

I am wondering if there is really another good way to fill them in without having to either metal patch it in or getting a new hatch. Some friends said to get a fiberglass repair kit and fill it in. Would that be an acceptable method? Or what should I do?

Yep was from the previous owners work and thinking having both the RS and Aero would look good together. As far as I can tell I am sure it is only supposed to have 2 holes on each side, no idea why he drilled 3. Trial and error maybe? Who knows.
But give me some ideas how to patch these up dammit!

Re: Filling in drilled holes on hatch?
full take apart & weld is always best . it is often not the most practical , i'm sure you don't want to do that . a good repair can be done that will last many years with polyester resin & mat . also with a number of different body repair fillers/patch repair kits . over the years i have done all/both with good results . clean , CLEAN , CLEAN & prep of the surface/area is most important . whatever you do . good luck .

Are you looking to sell the aero spoiler? Is it an OE type? Thanks
Re: Filling in drilled holes on hatch?
I suggest going to a junk yard and getting a new rear deck. It will be easier and cheaper. It is only glued on after you remove the hatch frame.

Welding the holes shut is the only right way to do it. Resin and mat will work, but 'glass and metal expand and contract at different rates, the holes will show up again. A good man with a welder can weld them shut and grind the welds down and leave no trace of the holes ever being there.

Re: Filling in drilled holes on hatch?
Explain more! I kinda figured it might be removeable but how would someone go about this? I am guessing it will just be the bottom part of the hatch right?
Any pictures or clear details would be nice, im sure that peice alone would not cost much at local junkyards IF there is any there.

Dude your in Chicago right? Come by my house and once I get my cheapy flux welder fixed I'll weld the patches for you, it'll take about 15 or so minutes.

Re: Filling in drilled holes on hatch?
I would of the car was in 1 peice and not in peices. Even more when I am thinking of rebuilding and doing the Ultimate TBI mods and maybe a gear swap soon.
I am really thinking of going the better condition rear deck and save myself the money on fixing it. It has some rust issues as well and well as you can see its in bad shape anyways. It looks like surface rust but trust me one minor poke and it will crumble.

Im a have to keep an eye on the forums or ebay to see if any pop up, last time I went to the local junkyards none had third gens.

Re: Filling in drilled holes on hatch?
i had the same issue, i replace my hatch completely. was going to weld but i also has minor rust around the plastic inserts so replacing was easier and cheaper, + i could do it myself. make sure to use a good sealer between the window and hatch if your replacing so you get no leaks. Thread
