Re: Rustproofing - twice a year?

when i bought my iroc in 88, i immediately took it to ziebart. then every year for the next 10 i took it in for the re-application. to this day its rust free. granted i store it during the winter. now if only the clearcoat hadn't broken down and the seats worn.....

You must have a inch of undercoating build up under the car hiding the rust..... That is the good Van Nuys paint job for you, nothing like the Norwood paint. Also nothing like a good set of 4th gen seats.

i doubt there's (much) rust. i should clarify: it was the yearly inspection and spot application, as necessary, to keep the zeibart warranty.

since the clearcoat began to break down five or six years ago, i keep saying "this year" i'll have it repainted.....this year i know better:-(

Re: Rustproofing - twice a year?

I"m sorry... twice a year? Once a year? Wha...? Never EVER heard that idea from anyone but a used car salesman who appeared to be pickpocketing me during the sale.

Seems like a huge waste of money to me. If I was that worried about the underside of my car, I'd coat it in POR-15 and be done with it.

(BTW, the 1984 underbody coating on my Camaro is still in quite good shape, and I'm in the rustbelt too)

Re: Rustproofing - twice a year?

ok, let's clarify. i didn't state that it was just undercoating: it was rust-proofing as the op asked. inner panels, rockers, etc. why? a budy of mine completely dismantled his datsun 280z, which had been rustproofed. now, he found that one-time application didn't cover much. (even with those specialty wands.) i figured that for the $25 each year they had to eventually get at everything, and that was the only way to keep the ziebart warranty.

sure, it doubled the cost over ten years, but it was worth it to me.

done.
