hatch wont shut...need recommendations

its a stupid problem.

I had my power hatch motor removed and a manual one put in its place as well as all new seals etc when the car was painted. The hatch wont close unless you slam it. If you open one of the doors a crack and shut the hatch, it shuts perfectly like it should.

Why is there so much pressure in my car? I would think there are some natural vents in the car to stop this problem, but where do I look for them?

sounds like you did a good job on the new seals!! from what i understand the purpose of the automatic pulldown is to prevent the hatch glass from blowing out when it is slammed shut. i would say from limited understanding i have would be to just crack your door or roll the window down when accessing the hatch without automatic pulldown. im no expert and could be totally wrong take my opinion for what its worth

you're the second person to say this. Apparently the power pulldowns were to fix the exact problem im having. Go figure! I'll just have to figure something out and leave a door open lol

There're the "body lock pillar exhaust valves" in the door jams. How those might affect the issue, I'm unsure. BTW, my 85, of course, was never equipped with a pull-down. I'm obliged to slam the hatch shut. Hearing if others without the pull-down experience the same problem would be interesting. My guess is that they do.
