Anyone roll there rear arches? aka "fender rolling"

Iv been looking into either buying a tool or having it done, I heard that its hard to impossible to do since the rear quarter panel lips are thick and have combined body peaces spot welded there. I got some ideas in mind but id like to know if anyone done this? or done something similar that works and looks factory?

I've never done it but I just received an email from eastwood about today only 20% off a fender roller.

I'd ask on the drag-racing forum, some guys on there have done it... I've read about people doing it but never done it myself.

Don't try to do this if the paint on your car looks good.. you will probably crack the paint.

I'm going to roll mine before I paint the car. The key is to do it little by little and use heat.

The heats for the paint, your spouse to heat the paint to keep it from cracking when you bend since the heat keeps the paint in a almost elastic state, but its also super easy to give to much then it becomes liquid and your left with bubbles etc ... its been done many times with cars that have over the top paint jobs still. i plan on doing mine cold since my cars in primmer/sealer so im not too worried about cracks.

I would just call around to a few body shops and get quotes. As far as mine were concerned I gust wanted to roll them just enough to keep them from cutting into the side of some 295's I had "before paint". Just did old school with a wooden bat.

How did yours turn out? iv been pondering the idea of using a hammer and body dolly then smoothing the rest out with a bat

Its not as smooth as it would be with the proper tool.It really only rolled the uppermost part of the lip but it did exactly what I wanted it to do.I did it before paint so did not have to worry about cracking/chipping.There are some videos and photos/instructions of this technique on the net.

Re: Anyone roll there rear arches? aka "fender rolling"

I know a guy that did this to his 4th gen. Unfortunately for him, I met him as the dent repair guy. Both quarters rippled pretty bad. About 4 hours later, and a decent bill to him, I had the 1/4s repaired. Lesson.....be careful and do it correctly or you too will be calling the dent guy or body shop!

Re: Anyone roll there rear arches? aka "fender rolling"

I am thinking of maybe masking a nice line and cutting them back but leaving a lip then tact welding or pinch welding the sheets back together... anyone tried that?

Re: Anyone roll there rear arches? aka "fender rolling"

I did mine with a body hammer and die. Turned out good, very happy with the clearance gained. Did have to use my cut off wheel to slice where they had some overlap since it was so thick and didn't want to flatten as easy as the rest.
