How to shave off 300lbs

Okay, so I was using a 1/4 mile calculator and it was extremely accurate to what I was running in my quarter mile. So I fiddled around with the calculator and found out that if I can shave off 300 pounds I can reduce my time by almost a half a second. What could I do to reduce the weight of my car?

Re: How to shave off 300lbs

depends on what you want to keep. Gut the entire car, remove all the ac, and under dash ducting, light weight suspension parts, lightweight wheels, ect ect ect ect. remove front sway bar, fiberglass hood.

going on a diet yourself can shave some weight too.

there is a thread is fab i think, "my midnight quest for 2800lbs", check it out

Re: How to shave off 300lbs

wow thats a good question lb is a lot of weight to take off.

you can look into swapping rims to start off. i don't know what your car looks like or what you have done to it but seats, bumper supports, speakers, power parts in the doors. there is alot of little things you can do but it will be hard.

also changing a-arms and cross member.

Re: How to shave off 300lbs

I know on my car, interior carpet and rear seats was around 50-60 lbs and lightweight drag wheels was 70lbs off stock 16x8 iroc rims with ET streets...

Rims and interior can get you 150lbs I guess. After that, its gut sway bar up front, crash bars, any engine bay stuff you dont need, maybe manual steering vs power, etc.

Thats a lot of weight to cut tho. My thirdgen was in the 3300lb range without me and it had full interior but drag wheels at the time I believe. I was around 150-160 back then, and my raceweight was near 3450 with me in it. I"d have to check my old posts on when i weighed my car.

Changing to a fiberglass notchback should trim off some weight?

Re: How to shave off 300lbs

hood is a good idea. Drops atleast 50-60lbs depending on what you get. The super light weight ones will do close to 70-80 I think. Stock steel is very heavy. But my harwood 4" cowl was also heavy for a fiberglass hood. I was dissappointed but I had to cut out alot of the under hood layer anyway to I saved some weight.

doing the front end may cost a lot but will make it lighter and keep it a daily driver.

You can also go through summit racing and get a set of fiberglass doors that also have the safety crossmember in them like the stock doors, only they way a whole lot less.

Re: How to shave off 300lbs

I can shave off 150 real easy, let my nephew drive.

A friend of mine done those long bike rides, one of his friends was always buying some fancy "titanium" part to save a few ounces, my buddy said " I skipped breakfast"
