Ok guys, ive never painted a vehicle before so Im not going to do it. Im sending my Truck to the local votech.

heres the deal the votech is saying ill need about a gallon to paint my truck. 91 Chevy Suburban. some hardener and thinner. 2 quarts each.

is that accurate?


I know Its not an F body, Im sorry.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Paint is mixed in very specific ratios; say 4:1:1. A gallon should be enough to do that, unless you're using red or really really cheap paint that doesn't have a lot of pigment in it. When I painted my trans am I used a gallon of Crossfire black and had probably enough for a sprayable pint left over for touchup work. Next time Im using Tec/Base because you mix it 1:1. Generally speaking a VoTech cant make money off the work they do, I think 5%. You're not getting screwed by buying a gallon, Kudos for choosing the VoTech they usually do great work.

 

Being its not specified what paint your using ill assume its acrylic enamel. The votech stated they need a gallon, so i would buy a gallon. Reduction is listed on the label so buy the appropriate amount of hardener and reducer. Also theres nothing stated about how much your painting? Is it a complete? Including roof, door jams, Under hood, if so then you will obviously need about double the amount. Hope that helps.

 

I was going to have the roof and all painted, but I really just assumed that the votech would paint the door jams and under hood as well.

IM sorry it just seems like a gallon wouldnt be enough for a big truck like that but im going to take your word for it nate and thank you tro

 

That is a base coat clear coat system. You will also need to purchase the clear coat and activator for the clear as well. You need to figure out what is being painted before you purchase any material.

With this system you will need the base coat with a reducer/ activator. Plus the clear coat with activator/ reducer.

Ask whoever is painting it how much base and clear they want you to buy
