need an IROC expert

Hello. I used to own a 1989 IROC and saw an 89 IROC for sale and was questioning whether it was a copy or the real deal. It was a TBI instead of TPI like mine which I know does exist so thats not what I was concerned about. There were no t-tops which I'm unsure whether ALL IROCs in that year came with. But, the very first thing that caught my eye was the front, looked like a RS bumper, no foglights and has that ugly plastic grill across the front. They had all the IROC stickers and labels, the ones on the doors and bumper but of course that could be stuck on there by anyone. Are these signs I noticed obvious of a fake IROC or is there something else I need to be looking for? Thanks for any help!

Re: need an IROC expert

Check the RPO codes and it should say Z28 there if it is an Iroc. Maybe it is one and they just replaced the nose with an RS from an accident or something. Just gotta get in touch with the owner and find out.

Check Comp nine GM VIN decoder on the net. Punch in the VIN number it should let you know if it is or isnt as it deciphers the rpos for the car

This web site should help you with your problems. If you scroll down to all the options the RPO codes are right next to each one.

Re: need an IROC expert

I'm not sure if the compnine website will work or not since I don't know how good the records are for 1989 but there are some people that like the non-foglight grille so that's a possibility and actually the bumper cover is the same for the IROC and RS it's just the grille that's different. The best thing to do is check RPO codes. check this site out http://www.iroczone.com/2009/10/iroc-z-spotters-guide/

Re: need an IROC expert

mine came with the weird plastic grill too, but i also have foglights under that, the front bumper is stock has the vin sticker in it and everything, but yeah like they said check the rpo sticker in the console, z28 should be there if its an iroc

also just out of curiosity, do you have a brother named chad? i recognize the car in your avatar and im also from marshall
