It's really tough,we use it on commercial vehicles and some motorhomes, as far as maintaining it, is u do it the same as with two stage, but it takes longer to fully cure so u need to let it set for couple days before color sanding and buffing

Re: pics of Rattlecan paintjob , anyone?
this blue is about 2 shades darker than the maui blue the car was, I would have gone darker blue for more contrast but I did not want to have to paint the engine compartment, I wanted the car to not look like it was repainted unless you really looked. I took the car apart about 90% but I guess the desire to get it on the road this year drove me to try and get it done and not do more.
Cost was just under $200.00 to do the body work, but your right, the time was TOO long in finish work. If I had spent about $150 more I could have shot the car all with the gun, and had about 4 days of finish work. Oh well, the car is this color for the next year or so.
I thought I could put some custom graphics on the side in a darker color to offset the lighter blue, have to see whats out there. Interior is grey plastic and black soft parts so I was thinking of either a dark silver or black in graphics.
To anyone thinking of doing this, read the board posts and then decide. Since my car is not really valuable it really does not make sense for me to spend $3 - 4k on body work alone. I have into this car just about what it's worth. That includes the cost of the car, new engine, tranny, rebuilt axle, new interior, tires brakes etc etc etc. A really nice daily driver or a weekend cruise car. It won't beat most of the cars on the road today nor will it win any show awards, but it nice and clean, safe and allows people to relive their youth to some extent when they see it. If people want to race me, i just laugh and don't even attempt it - though the car sounds mean and would give them a run at least for the first 100ft the other driver will really never know whats under the hood

Well I did mine with rattle cans. It was originally silver and I wanted it black. I sanded it down to bare metal, primed it with rattle and painted with rattle.
Of course it was not gloss it was flat black and I did not use clearcoat either! But I think it came out rather well!
This is by no means a permanent paint job for me!
Also, this was just practice. I am going to paint it with good paint, clearcoat and a spray gun/compressor next summer. But if you're bored and just want to change the color and see how it looks, go for it! If you take the time and do it with as much professionalism as you can, it will come out great! Here are some pics of my job...

As far as how many cans.... I used one can of primer and one can of flat for each section. 2 doors, 2 fenders, 2 quarter panels, 1 front bumper, 1 rear bumper, 1 hood, and 1 for the roof and hatch/spoiler.
So, 20 cans at 5.99 each, $119.80 plus tax
And about $40 bucks worth of tape and sanding paper.
Not too bad at all but it is by no means permanent. It is fading in certain spots.

If you like that non glossy black then john deere sells blitz black for about 35 a gallon. Is is a satin black, and has all the uv protecters and such. I did all my body work and tried to spray a fender myself. Looked good but had a lot of orangepeeel. So I found a gut on craigslist who will spray it at his shop for 200. Not to bad. So all in all I will be into paint 350 or so which includes all my body work supplies. And a lot of my time. Main thing to wath for iss tiger striping, but I have heard a lot ofit goes away as it cures
