Ive painted fenders and bumpers but nothing as big as a car. The paint is cracking in the left quarter panel and it has a small dent smaller then my fist in the left fender. And of course its little nut dings from squirrels... Nothing a little bondo cant cover up. I ts also faded a little bit in other places. Im going for original colors, red with silver flares, and I know I have to primer the bondo and bare parts.
My question its should i sand off all the paint on the howl car and primer it all. Im on a budget and im not trying to go for a lifetime paint job.
I was thinking of sanding down the dents and dings, filling them with bondo, and also sanding down to bare metal where the paints failing. Then primer the bondo areas and where the paint was failing. Then from there sanding through the clear and maybe a little of the base coat and just spray the new base coat over that. Then of course a clearcoat.
Would this be a good way to go? I dont plan on driving it in the winter so hopefully it wont go bad to fast. Thanks!
