Different weatherstripping opinions

I don't know if anyone has restored enough camaros and used multiple types of weather stripping but was hoping to get some feedback on it.

I'm looking at two sets of weather stripping atm:

Supersoft on Summit Racing: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MMP-RKB2001-118/

And 1A Autos Kit: http://www.1aauto.com/1A/Weatherstri...31/351965/1986

The prices are different by about 150 dollars, but the summit racing kit doesn't have the window sweeps with it, so 1A Auto is really only about 40 dollars more expensive. Not that big of a difference for me, so I'm trying to find out if anyone knows which one generally fits better?

1A Auto also has a GM kit: http://www.1aauto.com/1A/Weatherstri...01/242024/1986 which doesn't have the window sweeps either for a lot more, I'm assuming the GM kit should fit the best being original GM products but if I can save money going with an aftermarket kit then that would be great.

Where I find most people opt for GM only is on the t-top seals. These cars are very tricky to keep dry to begin with and while its all in the install, some would rather have exactly what came on the vehicle to begin with.

All of our aftermarket (metro) seals come with a 10 year (some have 15-20) warranty on them, so they definitely are not meant to be a cheap knock-off. I know I've got to do all the rubber on my car once the motor swap's done, we'll just have to see what's available for funds

Re: Different weatherstripping opinions

I've read plenty and heard plenty of people say to use original GM as well. But unless it's a cheap knock off, I can't imagine it being that different from original to cause major problems. After market seal produces have had 20+ years to perfect the seal design for these cars, I very seriously doubt there is a substantial difference between GM and aftermarket at this point.

As for a warranty it's almost meaningless to me on these things beyond the first few months / year. Like I"m really going to remember in 9 years 6 months hey these thing are still under warranty! And even if I do, I'd be willing to bet I'd have a problem getting replacements that long after I bought them

I'd be willing to bet that 90% of leaks using aftermarket weatherstripping is due to poor installation.

That being said, I'm still looking for opinions to the fit and quality of the stuff 1A Auto sales versus the SuperSoft on Summitracing.com I'm sure someone on this website has installed one or the other and can post their experiences with it?

Thanks!

Re: Different weatherstripping opinions

I bought online from a dealer.
Hardtop
Price, this is harder to tell, but google it. It was a BUTT Load of $$$. I was only able to afford the window in OEM but had to get crappy stuff for around the door. I think window was something like $300 and around the door was a bit more. totall would have been near a grand. So I opted to some OEM and some supersoft. The window stuff still great. The door crap has begun to fall appart. The plastic push pins pull right out of the material. Very crappy.
