Removing powder coat?

Removing powder coat?

Got a good deal on a new TPIS big mouth base, although it's powdered coated a shiny silver color that is not to my liking and not done all that well, (wasn't masked off that well, injector ports were coated), so along with aesthetics I'm worried about leaks . What's the best way to remove it? I've been told paint stripper will be a waste of time, so what are my options? All I can think of having it soda/media blasted. Mods, if this thread is in the incorrect place, please feel free to move it. Thanks!

they make a powder coat stripper, work ok, blasting would probably be best. Aircraft stripper may take it off, but i dont know for sure.

Abrasive blasting can actually take an eternity sometimes unless you have a really aggressive abrasive. Glass bead will do practically nothing and alum. oxide is very slow going. A pressure pot style blaster may work better but, standard siphon style, grab a chair.
Aircraft stripper works quite well but, it's the same as using it for stripping paint, messy and will most likely need multiple applications (depending on thickness of the coating). It's also hazardous to work with. Brush on style would be recommended over the spray on. It's less chance to get it on you as well..
As pillsbry said, carb cleaner (the kind you dip a carb in) works great. Downside, cost for the good stuff and it's pretty smelly, like aircraft stripper. Sometimes, older mechanic shops will have gallons of it in a cleanout tank. You might get lucky finding a shop dip it
Eastwood/Summit carry a stripper made specific for removing PC (as 86TA stated). How well it works, I don't know. It's one I haven't tried yet because it is more pricey than carb cleaner ($75/gal eastwood).

Talstrip! I left it on over an hour, (not by choice: the nozzle on the pressure washer died, so I had to go get parts to fix but it was apparently a blessing in disguise as I probably wouldn't have had enough patience for that!), and it sheeted off under the pressure washer nozzle. Got about 95% on the first pass. Another few spots recoated and all I have to do is probably run a little Scotch Brite in the bolt holes/bosses/injector bungs and it will be all gone. That is some potent stuff!
