ASCD hood pins?
Hi Guys,
I have an ASCD RA1 hood and the bolt holes are stripped out. I tried using a larger bolt but its no use. Can I use 4 hood pins to hold this hood down? I know it is common to do the front but the back is getting to be a nightmare and I think pins might be the only feasible answer.
Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Re: ASCD hood pins?
so the bolt plates are bad on the rear too?
2 pins on the front are a REALLY REALLY good idea on the front, and most companies will suggest it simply because the top fiberglass skin of the hood can delamiate unexpectedly from the bottom and fly off. THe pins are a little extra insurance
as for the rear, i dont know where you would put the pins, but they would work to hold the hood if you can use the hinges.

Thanks for the info 86TA!
Yes, the back bolt holes are pretty much worthless. I was wondering if I could use pins in the back also and eliminate the hood hinges?

Re: ASCD hood pins?
if you cant bolt the rear hinges to the hood, they are pretty much worthless, no?
Only issue i see if removing them and just using pins in the rear, is keeping the rear of the hood from sitting too low. the hinges have the bump stopsin the rear, and without the hinge, the hood will sit a lot lower. So you will have to fashion some kind of bumper setup to hold the rear at the right height.
At this point the hood is pretty much a pin on deal, kinda suck to have to get a buddy everytime you need to open the hood.
Are the rear bolt plates loose, or are the holes just stripped? Im unsure what exactly ASCD uses for a bolt plate, but could you perhaps use helicoils, or drill the plates out and re-tap them for a larger size?

Re: ASCD hood pins?
The holes are definitely stripped and the inserts/plates seems to wiggle some.
I may be able to drill it out but its hard to tell how much "meat" is left to drill.

Re: ASCD hood pins?
I have pretty much the same questions, cept my circumstance isa little more severe...long story short the only hood I have is the fiberglass hood that i have yet to install, problem is, it has absolutely no inserts in it where the hood hinge bolts are supposed to go, and I don't think it can take the stress if I bolt directly to the fiberglass, but I have no idea where to mount hood pins at the rear....need some tips, advice from someone whos seen where they are usually put or better yet done it..
