Hatch will not open... at all

I'm not sure if any of you have had this problem before..

All of a sodden, the motor for the hatch will not work anymore, and I cant open the hatch with the key because the key-lock has been busted since I got the car. So I'm not really sure how to get the hatch open to even test the hatch motor...

any ideas?

Re: Hatch will not open... at all

Just bought a 84 Berlinetta that has been modified to resemble a 92 Iroc. But the Hatch extends 3/4 of an inch past the quarters. any remedy I could not find any adustments on the hinge portion and the glass seems to be bottomed out into the lower hatch assembly. I can not help but think maybe it is not compatible and need new hatch. Any ideas?

If there is a cargo light in the back, you might be able to crawl back there and pop the cover off the light, the light comes out with the cover. After removing the light, use a long, flat blade screwdriver to operate the mechanism from the inside. You should be able to see the slot to fit the screwdriver in with a flashlight.

Re: Hatch will not open... at all

Thanks Al Hasse!

After a half hour of messing around with it, I finally got it to open. The motor pushed the hatch up as well so its definitely not the motor. I guess the switch/contact points or one of the electrical lines decided to fail (which hasnt been the first time thats happened on this car)

common problem, or you can buy a new switch.
or you open up the switch, and you will see that the copper lines in it are burnt. clean the contacts off and the reassemble, switch should work fine.
