So this is my first year owning my 87 Z28, and this is also my first winter with the car and I noticed that since it has gotten colder the t-tops are making a crackling noise anytime I go over a bump. I am unsure if this is because the shocks are bad causing my car to shake and thus the t-tops shake, or if there is something wrong with the glass panels, or if this just normally happens as it gets cold.

So yeah, any reply would be great, I tried doing a search on this but found nothing...

 

I was having the same problem with my 87 IROC where it would cracke over every wrinkle in the road. The way I got it to stop is by rolling down the windows just a crack and it stops. It makes me think that the sound is from the window being forced into the t-tops.

 

Same problem on my 91 but it only happens on the passenger side.

 

Happens to me year around, just gets worse in the winter.

 

Mine does that all year long - I have 1 lexan and one glass top - Its the lexan one that makes that stupid noise.
