A few weeks back I posted a pic under the title "rusty hole has me worried". It is a pic of the rust I found at the bottom of the unibody where the bottom of the fender mounts, just forward of the bottom door hinge. I don't know exactly what you call this area (some say bottom of the a-pillar, bottom of cowl drain.....whatever). Anyway, I couldn't figure out how moisture was getting in there and rotting out the rocker cavity, but I think this may have something to do with it. Now I'm sure I'm not the first to find this, but I think it's worth sharing. I picked out all the seam sealer in this area and found this huge gap between the seams....IDK..but I'm guessing water from the cowl drain was finding it's way back here past the sealer and causing the damage. I don't recall this issue on the passenger side, but the same area was rusted as well. I am now ripping out ALL the seam sealer I can get to. Hope this helps

 

Mine were much worse on both sides. I cut eveything out and welded in new metal, then reasealed it with seam sealer. That is a weak area on these cars. Most people have rust here but its hard to see until it gets really bad. Luckily mine is fixed and hopefully will last another 10 -20 years.
