Spoiler question
http://mediamail.boostmobile.com/gue...omMessage=true
I was wondering if anyone could tell me if this is an accurate spoiler for a Trans Am. I was rearended in a gas station and the body shop tried all different wrap around spoilers and they didn't fit. My T/A is an 87 and I just want to make sure this is not a Firebird spoiler so people wouldn't mistake it for one. If anyone could posts different angles of the spoiler I would appreciate that also.. Thanks

Re: Spoiler question
That is a spoiler that I have only before seen on Camaro but found a pic of a T/A with one on ebay. I thought that they all had the regular wrap around spoiler or the plain flat firebird type spoiler. That is a one? year spoiler used on some third gens though.
As I said I thought Camaro but found a pic of a t/a with one on it.

I take it they are replacing the entire hatch?? That looks like a Camaro spoiler to me. if a wraparound does not fit, I would guess that it is either not a TA hatch, or not an 87 as I believe all 87 TAs used this style spoiler.

I believe 85 and 86 TAs could have either type and that does looked similar to ones I've seen on 86 TAs. but not sure if they were stock. The only 87 TAs without the wrap around were convertibles.

Re: Spoiler question
For 87-90 I only show 2 spoilers for Firebirds wraparound aerowing type (W/D81) PN 12397143 and the flat spoiler (COMPT L/WDO AIR (W/D80)) PN 10065170. Both has special note of *1 which is for paint to match. I also only show one decklid PN 10074097.
I think I found the spoiler like that on the 87-90 Camaro section. It has listed Spoiler 1988 W/D81 PN 10139598. There are 3 decklids listed, but the one for the spoiler I would think would be 1988 Exc D80 PN 10092026.
Either way the decklid has a different part number than any of the Firebird ones.
I think this is the spoiler listed for the Camaro. It's hard to tell it's just crappy GM line drawings.
Its looking like if you don't want the spoiler you'd either have to find a different decklid or fill the holes and redrill for the wrap around one.

Re: Spoiler question
Depends on what you like. If you like the new one better than the old spoiler that was there before just keep it. Anymore these cars are at the point they get modded a lot so it'll be overlooked by most people. If someone gets really picky about it you can pretty much bet they'll be slapping a new decklid and a fiberglass spoiler on it anyways.
If it was my car and I was not at fault in the accident, meaning the other guys insurance was paying for it I would throw a fit until they got me the correct spoiler in good conditon most of the JY pulls probably look like mine and are splitting. It shouldn't be your fault the body shop can't find the correct decklid and spoiler. If they couldn't find me a replacement I'd be making them try harder or pony up the cash for a replacement and have it painted. You could always take your money and throw in some extra to get the aftermarket fiberglass aerowing if you like those.
When I got ran off the road by a driver that decided to merge in a double left turn lane without a signal or even looking I was ran onto the curb. The police didn't want to file a report because they said there wasn't enough damage. I had them file it anyways which the lady and the police officer wasn't happy about. Turns out my <$200 estimate by the police was much worse than it looked. I had a ripped rear tire that couldn't be patched, fender knocked out of place, alignment was off, and 2 rims with curb rash.

Re: Spoiler question
The photo is of a 1988 Camaro Sport Coupe low rise spoiler/wing. They only made them for that one year. I know because I have one on my Camaro. If you want me to post photos just ask.

Re: Spoiler question
Evilemokid94...,I may be mistaken but that's not exactly the one. This is the one in the photo he posted.I did a little more research and found they only made them for "1/2" a year in 88 on the Sport Coupe. That kind of makes them rare.

Re: Spoiler question
yeah i know, i dont like the camaro lo rise because it doesnt cover the entire body. so i went to the junkyard and found a base firebird spoiler and i pulled the spoiler and tada. it covers the entire body.
