What Ground Effects do you like better on Z28s? 85-90 or 91-92?
What Ground Effects do you like better on Z28s? 85-90 or 91-92?
I have been wondering this - what is the general consensus for best ground effects? Personally, I like the 91-92's better, I may even change out my IROC ground effects at some point. What about you all?
Re: What Ground Effects do you like better on Z28s? 85-90 or 91-92?
'85-'90. The other ones look tacked on like a ***** bodykit, and the holes in the back of them into the wheel wells look horrible.
'85-'90 are much cleaner and fit the cars much better.
Think of it this way, if the '91-'92 style had never been created, and someone decided to custom fab them, they'd be laughed off the forum as a *****.
EDIT: Your opinions may differ, and that's fine. Just tellin' it like I see it.

I think both styles look good even though I own one of the ones that looks like it has a "tacked on ***** bodykit"..LOL....It can't look too bad tho, because my Z gets complimented all the time......
...

I personally think they were redesigned in 91 to stand out from the recently discontinued IROC-Z package of 1990, and to go along with the rest of the 91 refresh.
I don't like them. The "vents" aim at the tire treads for crying out loud.
My vote is for the 85-90. Much more clean look.

like the 91+ myself. i really liked the change over from the louvers to the blisters on the hood too, seemed to make for a slightly more modern look to them.
trying to snag myself a set of 91-92 side skirts for my TA to add a little something different to the car

Sorry love the iroc louvers, but ground effects gotta go with the iroc as well because the 91/92 doesnt seems to flow especailly the rear bumper. Besides I like saying that i got a 80s car

definitely like the 85-90 better. hell, I Even like the 82-84 better. They just "fit" these cars better. I Had a 92 RS and even though she was pretty, never as sexy as the other F-bodies with the older gfx I had...oh, and the IROC hood louvers rule, fool! only outdone by the Pontiac powerbulge hood on the early Trans Am/later Formulas...
Re: What Ground Effects do you like better on Z28s? 85-90 or 91-92?
I love the 91-92 style, I feel they just make these cars look so much better.
They give the car a much more modern look without having to do anything drastic to the car itself.
Just wish they were easier to find, I had a heck of a time finding them in good enough shape to use on mine
Oh, and I also like the blisters over the louvers too.

I'd like to see pictures of teal Camaros with both different ground effects. I got the 91-92, but I've been considering switching to the older style, just not sure about it.

Re: What Ground Effects do you like better on Z28s? 85-90 or 91-92?
I like that my outer treads stay cool.
I like both. The factory 91-92 gfx are pretty tame really. Not a huge difference. Just a little more aggressive with some tire cooler vents built in.
I think that IROCs shouldhave IROC gfx, and 91-92 cars should have 91-92 gfx.
I do particularly like how the 91-92 pieces are molded below the grille insert area to accentuate it a little more.

91-92 for me. I actually just switched my gfx on my '84 to the 91' style and like it much better. However, my '86 Iroc i just bought I wouldn't change a thing...
Re: What Ground Effects do you like better on Z28s? 85-90 or 91-92?
My favorite third gens are 85-90.
To me, the 85s, which hit the market and started showing in magazines, commercials, etc. around the summer of 84, which was for the last two years of my high school.
The 82 to 84s were cool, but something about the 85 just NAILED it.
And the HO 305s before were about 190 hp. In 85 they met their match with the TPI, the first damn stock motor to go over 200 crank HP in Camaros for over a decade.
Think of it like you are a kid about to start 11th grade and get your license, and for 5 or 10 years all the cars like the new Camaro, Challenger, and Mustang have been detuned and them BAM! a restyling and more HP.
So I am totally prejudiced to the 85 to 90, and the first car I bought "new" was the 85 Z28. (ok, it was acutally already a year or two since it left the factory, but it had about 12k on it and was a new a vehicle as I had ever bought and would be until 1994)
I have to admit, the V6 Camaros and Mustangs and Challengers are all now like 300 crank HP or more. The cars are heavy, but they are just about on par with the kind of power you got from the later LTs and start of the LS in the 90s.
