If they want your car badly enough they will take it.

I recall a built 4th gen around here that was stolen via flatbed. Never saw it again.

 

this is why mine stays in the garage unless i am around it or driving it 100%.

I have this item, although it may have been made by a competitor. I bought it new for 6 bucks in the clearance section of pepboys a few years ago. I remember the manager laughing and saying that he never thought he would end up selling it.

I'm surprised that people didn't talk much about VATS here. Now has that been proven to be effective? Seems like a solid concept to me, considering how the car won't start with the proper resistor. That, and it'll "lock out" for about 5 minutes if the wrong/no resistor is detected. My 91 has VATS and it gives me at least some piece of mind and in the 2+ years I owned the car the system only malfunctioned once.

 

A long stick is all you need haha. Our windows peel open so easy without a full door frame.

My car has a hidden magnetic reed switch. I have a little thing on my keychain, and it has to be held in just the right place. Literally 1/4" off and it wont trigger the system. Get it right, car cranks right up. Get it wrong, you get nothing. Not even a crank.

Its spidered in pretty good. It would take quite a few jumper wires and some thought to figure it out. And since a lot of my wiring is custom...they'd be in for some work...and time.

Wheel locks, while not unbeatable, are always good. If you have super nice wheels, maybe do two sets of locks on each wheel. Yes...more work to remove for you...but WAY more work for a thief.

If they have a flatbed...you're out of luck.

i think a gps tracking device would be an awsome idea. just sayin. it would be interesting to have it stolen and not do anything for a day or two, and see where it turns up. or whats left of it lol.

I do have a GPS tracking device installed in my IROC. It's called a DroneMobile system and it works with my blackberry and my Andriod phones. If anyone does get past the alarm system and gets my car, the drone system is still active and installed in a *undisclosed* location separate from the alarm brain with it's own battery backup and I can get it's current location from my phone or from the internet. I would just call the Police and say.. there's my car, go get it... or I will.... it will also send me text alerts if the car leaves certain bounderies like home or work... pretty cool system..

 

I had Maxi-Guard alarm system installed back when I first bought my Camaro where I carried a pager (no smart phones back then) that beeped when the alarm went off. Trouble was the pager would beep when the batteries would get low. I was changing batteries a couple times a week, and running out of a restuarant when it off proved troublesome for the waitresses. They thought I was skipping out on the check!

 

didn;t read all replys so maybe someone said this already-if your t-top is left unlocked you can easily pull the top edge of window out enough to slide your hand in and pop t-top handle.Funny thing is i did it for years after locking keys in there,one day I pulled the window too much and it shattered..To deter mischief I keep a car cover on my car, bungee cords holding it on with a few metal pots/pants tied to them and slid under the car-move the cover and the pans make a huge racket.

I've enjoyed this thread. I have an '89 IROC Z-28 with insanely low miles (you wouldn't believe it) and I'd like to have an alarm system installed. Sorry, I'm not good enough to do it myself. Does anybody have recommendations on brands and models? I'm not as crazy about the loud alarm as I am having one that includes a kill switch. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

 

Remove the fuse for the fuel pump.

 

Someone broke into my car in the middle of the day at McD's in the bronx. they took my phone but who knows what could have happened. I'm looking into a kill switch now.

 

if the coil wire is black replace it with a piece of black vacumn hose.looks like a coil wire.buy alarm stickers and stick them on the windows.that will scare off some thieves.
