Engine bay paint

I need suggestions on how to paint the engine bay, I will not be painting the car but I may have the engine out in the near future.

I know how to prep it but more on what to do paint wise.

Is there a good rattle can paint that will hold up or should I go the rout of doing a semi-gloss black with a sprayer in the engine bay. Or should I go with color, although I may change the white to a different shade of white, I wonder about the gunmetal grey under the hood to match the bottom, I will be keeping that color.

The factory paint in the engine bay is getting quite weak and easy to scrape off, the exterior has been repainted before so its still good. The car has the factory edp primer that the paint doesn't like to stick to, but luckly has kept the rust away.

a good auto paint store will have two part paint and primer in rattle can, it is the same paint that the body shops use just in rattle cans for us, they also have self etching primer that with a short flash time you can put topcoat on with out sanding.
