Choosing the right CAMARO!!!HELP!!!
Hi, but Im intending in buying a camaro off of craigslist and I alrready met the person and have test droven the camaro. Its actualy a 1987 z28 V8 305 engine, automatic(wish it was manual). When I drove it, the engine feels quite powerful and takes off fast, I cheked out the engine and didn't see any big problems with it.
Now the body of the car is kinda shitty, the paint job is literally a spray can paint job(flat black) there is a cracked buumper, the steering wheel is a lil loose, the back hood which open does't stay up anymore it doesnt have the lil hydraulics that hold it up, It has no key hole on the passenger side, the driver side has no key hole as well,so you can't even lock the doors, and to open it you gotta put your hand on the outside, the seats are a lil torn up, the front tiresd have not to much but still some thread and same thing with the rear tires, the hood of the car is this cheap fiberglass hood which is just held by two pins in the front and the hood completly comes off, the main lights dont work and you got to use your high beams when driving, thr right blinker doesnt work just the one on the back.Other than allof that the engine seems fairly good and feels strong even for a 87
Is a 305 V8 a good engine, whats the big difference between the 350? is it worth buying?
the guy wants $1500 but I think its too much and its not registered either which will cost me $150......So what do you guys think?Any recomendations?thanks!

Re: Choosing the right CAMARO!!!HELP!!!
I would pay about 5-600 for a car in that kind of condition, our 85 was in the same state, and we payed 600 for that
Re: Choosing the right CAMARO!!!HELP!!!
sounds like a money pit. take a look at c-list, youll se my 86 in there for 4k, my ride needs nothing and that $1500 car will will lose its value once you start dropping dough an engine is important but there are more things that cost and add up.

Sounds like the guy did a lot of mods to his liking. Many of the things you mentioned are fixable. You can get good interior pretty cheap, all the part are replaceable to fix it like you want it. But the guys are right. For the money you will pay to fix it like you want it you could buy a car that is already looking pretty good. Better to search until you do.
In the long run will cost you more money then the car is worth. I think most of us on here have done this and speak from experance. Good luck on your search! There is a GTA here in my town, just beautiful with new paint 5.7 TPI sweet ride for $2800 I would buy it if I had the cash

Re: Choosing the right CAMARO!!!HELP!!!
the 305 isnt a bad engine, but its not one that can make good HP without SERIOUS money. for the same amount of money you spend getting a 305 to reliably make 300HP, you can build 2 stout 350s.
