Shopline black decent paint?

A friend of mine is going to school for body work and he told me that they could paint my whole car for about 250 bucks at his school if i bought shopline black at wholesale price.

Is this paint decent paint? Worth the 250?

He said i could spend like 400 bucks more and get a bit higher quality paint.

What im trying to avoid is the wrinkle glare look that i see on a lot of cheap paint jobs, would this type of paint give those results?

Anyone ever use it?

Re: Shopline black decent paint?

I use Shopline on cheaper jobs, as well as my own cars. I dont however use their clear coat, I go with a higher end clear. We just got the waterborne paints last year and I do the same concept there, with using waterbourne for base and use a higher end clear. The only downside (I feel) to Shopline as well as waterbourne is that the paint line is not as complete as the higher end lines are (PPG/RM). In other words thier system doesnt have all the colors, so you cant mix really exotic colors with them. As far as stock thirdgen colors Shopline will support them all, so Shopline away.

Re: Shopline black decent paint?

Thanks for the reply!

Well im only spending about 250 to get it done at the school, which clear would you recommend me using? Im not looking for anything fancy just something that wont be complete junk.

I want to go with just an ordinary red or black that will look decent. (still havent decided on the color) Im basically just painting it like this as a temp solution, my cars are all garage kept so im hoping the paint will last me quite a while.

Shopline is the base line of paints made by PPG.
http://www.ppg.com/coatings/refinish...s/default.aspx

The last single stage enamel job I did I used Limco made by BASF.
Laid out nice and still shiny 2 years later !
Only $50 bucks a gallon to boot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ultimate cheap paint job!

To get rid of that glare you mentioned, you can wet sand the clear with 2k grit till its nice and flat, then buff it all out. Long process but the results are amazing.
