rear hatch ??

I have an 87 Camaro with a electric rear hatch pull-down. Did all Camaros with the large rear window/hatch have electric pull-downs? Is there an equivilent manual rear hatch latch that can be use to take the place of an electric one?

Early years didn't have electric pull-downs.

86 was the first year for the power pull down. Many repair parts can be purchased from the following site (should you be interested in that avenue):

Re: rear hatch ??

Thanks, but I was hoping to just convert it to a manual only latch. Get rid of the pul down mechanism completely.

Re: rear hatch ??

Thats easy. Just get your pulldown where you want it and unplug it. It should still release, but you will have to slam the hatch to get it to catch.

Re: rear hatch ??

The welded in sheetmetal bracket that the latch mechanism bolts to is different from manual to electric. Its not a hard job to change that bracket if you are good with a welder and can layout the position correctly. There may also be a difference in the lock cylinder but that should be easy enough to change.
