i want to put in new hinge pins in my doors by taking the doors off. when i go put them back on do they have to be adjusted. are any of the holes slotted? i know what a pain that can be. also there is probally a thread that covers this but i dont feel like searching threads for 5 hours. thanks for the help!

 

Yes they are adjustable, and they are a pain.
I just went through this when I swapped out my doors. It's amazing how much difference the doors from one car to another there is, and how much adjusting to get it finally right.

 

They can be a big pain. I took off my driver side door to replace the lower pin, and when I put it back on it was to far to the rear with almost no gap at the back. I tried sliding it forward, but I couldn't And, I have a problem where the whole door is dropped down a quarter inch. You can see it looking at the body molding.

 

i removed my doors to do the lower pins the way i got it to go in the general area is before i took it off i took a sharpie and outlined the hinge on the car. when i put them back on they just needed some minor adjustment tocompensate for the new pins

 

Yes, you may discover after doing the hinge pin replacement that the door needs to be aligned. This tool will help with that. Unfortunately if your door hinge pins are worn you won't know if the droop of the door is caused entirely by the worn hinges or if the hinge is bent due to the HEAVY long door bending the hinge. I've repaired 300K mile customer cars that had doors with perfect alignment after the repair. I've aldo had low mileage cars that I repaired that required me to use a door alignment tool after the door hinge repair.

The door spring tool if you value your life. You can pry the door spring out without it, but good luck getting it back in without a door spring tool.

As Lon said,the spring tool is a "must" item for the job.

 

all i wanna do is fix a rust spot but i cant get at it unless the door is off. and while i have it off i figured i'd change the pin and bushing. or should i just leave it alone, cause the door shuts mint...

 

were is the rust spot if u still take off the door to fix the rust spot outline the hinge on the cari if the door still shuts mint then why bother?
