New rust on roof

My paint began to chip away little by little on my roof. In the recent weeks, it has rained and I noticed a redish spot on my primer exposed roof. I know I have to buff it out with fine grit sand paper or with steel whool. But is there any spray can or other form of spray that will prevent the rust? Or even better, is there a spray paint that will seal the roof from the elements?

You're in for a bit of work but nothing terribly difficult. Sand down with an orbital. If you hit metal (more than likely) then a light coat of etch primer, primer, filler primer, sand, sealer, color, then clear. Each step will need to radiate from the problem area...blending can be a major pain though.

If that's the case, I'd go down to metal (already compromised), etch, seal, and single stage acrylic urethane. You live in CA, I'm in MI...totally different environment. Hell, out there you could sand it and rub it with 50/50 used motor oil and kerosine and be OK. That's a rust proof seasonal undercoating where I live

Yeah. Doesnt rain much here. So by keeping it with a light coat of oil should be ok?
