I've got a set of louvers that are very similar to yours that were made by Astra. These things are far superior to the plastic version. ( I've had a plastic set get ripped right off my (old) 86 IROC while on the highway before !! ) The Astra version has an aluminum center, plastic sides and quick release locks so the center section can get lifted and the glass can be cleaned.
In the 20 + years I've owned a ThirdGen I've only never seen another set of louvers like mine. Unlike yours that fit snug to the back glass,.... mine are raised higher off the hatch to allow for the optional rear wiper to still operate.
Wish I could find a picture !! Maybe I'll finish restoring them and install them again next season !
P.S. Found a Pic,..... this was back in 93 - before digital pictures !

Re: Rear window louvers question?
Regarding window tint, not only check your local laws, but also see when they went into effect. Here in TX, the tint laws came into effect back on 01 Sep 1988. I drive an '86 T/A and there is nothing that they can do. I've been given tickets four times and the dumb *** cops don't know when the law came into effect. I've embarrassed cops four times at a "trial by judge" court. The Prosecuting attorney for the city thinks they know it all but they don't. When I show them the state laws and when the effective date is, by legislature, I always get a "case dismissed". They take you to court and expect you to just "fold" on them with no challenges.
Look up your local laws for the effective date and wave at them as you go by!

Re: Rear window louvers question?
I found a set that have the aluminum center and plastic sides. "astra" I think. man the heat reduction is amazing and they hide the fact that my car has a huge rear window. $50 and I couldn't be happier

If you ever stumble onto this thread intentionally or unintentionally, please , NEVER NEVER put louvers on a 3rd gen, or a second gen, or even a 4th gen....

RE: Pretty dumb statement!! Plus, you're too late.
I'd like to hear this explanation, especially the dumb part, Moderator?

If you want to see examples of what you should never ever put on a thirdgen, please refer to the dumpsterfire craigslist thread.
Re: Rear window louvers question?
Are moderators not allowed to have their own opinions? I think your statement about nobody should ever put louvers on a 3rd gen is pretty dumb, being that they were an option available from the factory on these cars. And, you posted your negative thoughts on a thread where members are specifically looking for louvers. If you don't like louvers, the don't get them on your car.

Re: Rear window louvers question?
Absolutely "moderators" should have opinions. There is a big difference between having/stating an opinion and a personal attack ( "pretty dumb statement") on a person with a different one. YOU reacted to a benign statement ("please don't") of opinion by taking it personally. If you presume to "moderate" learn what that means first. And I will add comments wherever I want.
Re: Rear window louvers question?
You think that my calling your dumb statement, a dumb statement, is a personal attack? Do you need to hang out in your safe space or do you want to stay here with us big boys and girls? I didn't take your dumb statement as a personal attack, because I don't care what people think. I like the louvers on my car, regardless of the many that don't.
I know what moderate means. Thank you for your concern though. As I stated before, you came into this thread and made an ignorant post. if you don't like louvers, then don't put them on your car. You won't upset me any by not having them.
