I bought a 89 RS for 500 bucks and I'm working on fixing it up. The tail lights are good, except for the square black part that houses the license plate lights on the driver side. It is cracked and missing a chunk. I've seen tail lights for sale without this black part, but can't seem to find just the black part for sale. Can you buy it? And is there a name for it that I don't know, so I can search for it better?

 

You can buy it, it's called a tail light fill/filler panel.

I got a NOS one from Modern Day Muscle, and for a long time one side (can't remember which side) would pop up NOS once in awhile, but the other side never did, but then MDM managed to get one in and I snapped it up. Unfortunately I don't remember which side is the easier one to find, but they are out there. Who knew they were gloss black? Mine have been matte since I owned the car in '99.

EDIT: I bought IROC ones, you may or may not be able to get the RS ones. Don't recall seeing them.

 

They sell them on feebay some times! If you can't find any I have a really nice 89 RS set. They are the one's with the black down center Right?

 

Breakout calls it: Applique. I'd question you finding it separated as a used part.
