Weak Hatch Struts

Im sure this has been brought up before but searching wasnt very useful. Im in need of weak hatch struts. When i bought my car the original struts were dead so i replaced them. Well im now going to install a fiberglass hatch and the replacement struts are WAY to strong. Im not sure ayone sells anything like this so would my best bet be finding used struts? The only other option i could think of would be a prop like setup used for some hoods that dont use struts. Any help would be great. Thanks

Re: Weak Hatch Struts

I've heard of people only changing one strut instead of both to deal with this problem,

Re: Weak Hatch Struts

I guess i could try that but i feel like it would leave some odd uneven pressure on the hatch.

Re: Weak Hatch Struts

Maybe try ordering struts meant for a wingless or non-wrap around spoiler car? I just picked up new hatch struts today for my bird, and NAPA asked whether or not I had a wing on my car. The struts for the non-winged cars are a lot weaker than those for the winged cars.

Hope that helps! :-)

Re: Weak Hatch Struts

I've been having the opposite problem. I put the original louvers back on my car and now the hatch only stays up some of the time! I guess I'll have to find some stronger ones eventually.

If you are really looking for weaker struts I'm sure there are a lot of people with the same problem as me that would be willing to trade.

Re: Weak Hatch Struts

Adrenaline1, if you still need some weaker struts, the ones I pulled out of my car today still have good compression, but just not enough to hold up my now-wingless hatch (wing was F'd). I don't know just how light a hatch would have to be for them to hold it up, but if you want them I'll give them to you free since I can't guarantee that they'll work. PM me if you're interested.

Re: Weak Hatch Struts

You can probably go to the parts store, give them the foot pound pressure and length (open and closed) of your struts, and they can probably find you a pair that you can get in there. Also try checking online. Those can't be the only ones of that length and strength ever made. Find a pair of less strength and same size and you ought to be fine.

I just Googled it and the first link got me here. http://www.autopartsbylou.com/lift-s...e=mmy&x=12&y=9 I'm sure you can find something without too much trouble. Best of luck!

Re: Weak Hatch Struts

Im sure i could find some that work at some point. I really dont understand why some more common struts werent used for these things. Finding struts with the right pressure and length is the easier part, its finding ones with ends that will work thats the problem.
