I'm currently restoring my 92 RS to a non-rusty glory, and I've been considering removing the ground effects altogether. Reasons being that:
1. The nose on it currently is from an 84 Berlinetta (accident quick fix) and is incompatible with 92 GFX,
2. The original nose GFX was completely destroyed and I don't have any extra money to be buying a new one
3. I love the shape of the body without them.

However, I'd like some input about if its a good idea or not, and if so, how in the heck I'd go about taking the skirt brackets off.

There will be screws either philps and 7mm ones on the top inside the door and underneath the car. There is a 10mm or 11mm nut on the rear section that you need to remove the interior to get at and im sure there is 1 on the front as well.

Its been awhile so Im not 100% on the front bolt and how to get to it

 

I just took mine off last night.

There are several regular screws to remove on top and several 7mm screws under the car that hold the rocker on. I think it's 5 or 6. Then you need to remove the side kick panels on the interior of the car. You will see a black patch covering a square hole, remove that sticky black patch and use a 6" extension with a 7/16" deep socket. Ther will be 2 speed nuts to remove. I could only get to one of them.

To get to the other, remove or access to wheel well by removing the black push tabs holding the liner to the fender, the other nut will be right there

To remove the rear portion of the rocker, you must remove the rear side interior panel. You will again see a small black sticky patch covering a square hole, remove that and use the 6" extension with a 7/16" deep socket, if don't have the 7/16" use an 11mm, but you must have a deep socket. There is only 1 nut to remove on the rear, and 2 for the front. A magnet pen comes in handy too

 

Thanks, but that's not really what I meant. The bracket that holds the rocker to the body looks spot welded on. I have a torch, but I wouldn't know how to go about removing it.

 

Umm yeah thats actually pinch welded, why are you trying to remove that? Are you completely and permenantly removing gfx??

 

The bracket is spot welded on. To remove, locate and remove spot welds by drilling or grinding.

i'm actually trying to do this right now too. currently the metal brackets for the side pieces are still on, and so are the front bumper + lip and the rear lip. i was really hoping i wouldn't have to get under the interior but i was afraid from the beginning that i would have to and now i know for sure. good luck with yours!
