has anyone done this

I have an 86 iroc and i was wondering if anyone ever took the hood vents off the front and cut out areas of the hood to make the heat extractors functional? I was thinking about doing this but im not sure if it would be worth it.

there was a factory design that did offer something along those lines on the early 3rd gens, but you'll need to get creative in how you keep water from dumping directly into the engine if you're trying to do it yourself.

Re: has anyone done this

I have an '86 Z28 and the fancy decorative fins came off of my hood. What I want to do is put a pair of small scoops on the hood for some ram air in the summer. My thought was to cut holes and have a flap open up inside to allow air in or keep air/rain/snow/etc out. I was thinking of putting an electric motor or pneumatic on them to open and close them as desired from the inside of the car without having to pop the hood. I'm thinking the bolt on stuff wouldn't be too hard and running wiring for power and wiring for a switch to the dash wouldn't be very difficult. I have to wait a while as I have money to spend on the car in other areas first. If you do this, please let me know what you did and how it worked out. Hope my idea is helpful!

Re: has anyone done this

best way to keep water out is a diaphragm on a flap that opens up when it gets vacuum from the engine

Re: has anyone done this

Yeah Jimmy, but I want to manually control if it's open or closed, not just have it open whenever the engine is on.
