front bumper cover restoration question?
Does anybody know how to restore a caved in front bumper cover? The plastic is not cracked or damaged, but caved from the sun or other elements. The area I'm referring to is the nose area between the headlights, and the left and right sides of the emblem on the nose. Any suggestions other than just plan replacement?

Re: front bumper cover restoration question?
I would think that if there were a way to fix this, it would be widely known, and there would be a lot less people buying new bumpers. This is a very common problem on 1978-82 Corvettes, and we all know how **** Corvette owners are. I'm 99% sure there is not a good quality, cost effective fix for them.
Only thing I can think of would require removing the entire bumper assembly, placing it in a large oven to heat it up evenly, and then somehow pull it out precisely where it's bent without stretching the plastic too thin or deforming it before it cools down. I would think that making the right tools for this process specifically for this style of bumper would far outweigh the cost of a new bumper.

That's cool, I'd rather get another one than try and fix the one that is on the car right now. Let me know if they are worth the money or cheaply reconditioned? Thanks

Those bumpers are reconditioned. Let us know how the fit and quality are.

Re: front bumper cover restoration question?
I've had fairly good luck taking a heat gun, and heating up an area until its hot to the touch and working it with some leather glovesback into shape. it didn't work perfectly - but I'm sure with some practice it'd work great.

I was going to fix mine but that is a pretty good price as long as the reconditioning is done right. I would love to see some pics of the nose you recieve!

I just one one from Hawks,I can't wait any longer,I canceled the one I ordered. These things are really hard to find. The one from Hawks needs to be stripped down but it's solid.
Re: front bumper cover restoration question?
I got a new GM bumper cover from a GM dealer (took a while to find). price was $350+$100 shipping... too much for what it is. I would never do it again. get one from a junk yard (less then $50).
