T-Tops

I own a beautiful 1986 Camaro. It is my baby. I plan on doing things to it to make it even better. One thing I really wish it had was T-tops. I have no idea how realistic this is or not, but is it possible to have a body shop modify my roof to install T-tops? If so what would I be looking at for cost. Right now this is just a dream on a dream. So please just constructive thoughts.

It's not impossible for a body shop to do. My uncle had a T-roof put on his 78 T/A last year no problem.

He is getting it done on his 85 soon also, He has a t-roof I cut off of my 88 to swap over. It's best to use a donor car for it and cut the roof from the top of roof all the way to the quarters on the backside and the A-pillars all the way down to the cowl just in case.

Do you know how much it ran to get that done? And if possible do you have a diagram showing the description you just explained? Oh just use paint to show some arrows?

Re: T-Tops

It's easier just to buy a T-top car and keep another hard top in existence. Some prefer the hard top.

I figured that, but I have put too much into the car now to just get rid of it. And I am going to college now, I can't afford another for a few years. So I just want to figure out estimates on stuff and difficulty. Because if cutting the roof to fit Ts in it is too far out of my range right now then it is. I just want an idea.

Re: T-Tops

I think there is a thread somewhere on here about someone who converted a factory hardtop to a factory t-top, matching the plugwelds and everything else to do it seamlessly. Also, back in the day, a few companies did convert hardtop cars to t-top cars, though I don't know if they are able or willing to do that to a car today. I would enjoy your car as is and go looking for another if that's possible, but the conversion can and has been done.

If I find time today, I can make a picture of how it's done.

It cost him about $700 to do it without painting it.
