Door sag....

Well, I have noticed since I purchased the car that if the window is rolled up the door does not close all the way. It sometimes just doesnt close all the way anyways. Well what can I do to fix the door sag? Its very minimal but what fix is there? Also while on the subject the window roles up about 3-2 centimeters to high, if you put it all the way up. Does anyone know a fix for that too?

Re: Door sag....

Sounds like you need to replace the door pins and bushings. That should fix the sag.
I know my husband has adjusted the windows before- requires taking everything off the door to get inside.

Re: Door sag....

Adjusting the window is easy. Gotta take the door panel off and then theres three bolts you can loosen and move up and down to adjust the height of the glass.

So what you are saying is just loosen up the three bots and I should be able to lower my window height?

Yep, simple as that...lol. You have to take off the door panel though. Just be careful not to break the small round clips or your door panel will be loose and make noises! As for your door sagging, mine is doing the same thing. Maybe somebody will post part #'s and where to get the bushings and pins??

If you don't know what you're doing, you can break those door clips easily. It also requires removing the arm rest.
We've got/had a couple of sagging doors- I'll see what my husband used to fix them.

A few years ago, a worker at autozone told me about a little trick to temporally fix the door sag......Take a 2x4 and place it on a hydraulic jack and put it under your open door. Jack it up enough very carefully until it is where you want it. Obviously this doesn't permanently fix the problem, and all you're really doing is bending your pins and hinges, but can help. Has worked for me and still seems to be holding up.....would like to do it the right way...lol. Maybe it's time to do that trick again???

But its a one-time all inclusive kit that you only have to do once. A little pricey, but it is a great kit. I just did my hinge pins two weeks ago. Sounds like a new car when I drive. 95% of the rattles and various noises are gone. I hit bumps in my car and I don't hear anything. Almost as quiet as a new car. I was pretty amazed at how much of a difference it made. I highly recommend getting those pins if your doors sag.

That other idea about bending your hinges with a 2x4 and a jack just sounds like lunacy. That's got to be one of the worst ideas I have ever heard about how to fix something.

Re: Door sag....

Summit Racing sells slight oversides door pins for this issue and they are dirt cheap, might want to look there. Yeah never listen to an Autozone worker, that jack idea is just dumb, hey lets bend the crap out of our door hindges, I mean what it you bend too far up, going to hit it down with a sludge hammer? LOL!

Re: Door sag....

the problem we have with our upper hinge is that there is no pin & bushing to replace; GM didn't do us any justice by allowing us to service that hinge when things wear out. The TDS kit's pricey, but its the only good solution to a bad problem we were stuck with.

Well about there not being a top door hinge pin, it looks like someone has added one to my door. Could this be the problem with the sagging?

I don't know, it's really the same idea as the hinge bender tool that TDS sells. Not sure I'd be brave enough to try it though.

Re: Door sag....

Sorry, didn't mean to strike a nerve or offend anyone about the "jack" thing...lol. It was something I tried 4 or 5 years ago to fix the sagging that I had. Didn't think it would work, took my time not to damage anything and sure enough my doors were perfect! As of this day they are still good. Just thought it's probably time to replace? Maybe I'll wait though, didn't realize pins and bushings were so expensive!! But I'm sure well worth it...lol.

Use an engine lift to hold up the doors while you have the hinge pins out, makes the install much easier

I concur with the use of an engine hoist. It makes life a lot easier during the repair process.

The engine hoist sounds like a perfect idea! I have one of those which will definitely make it easier than another set of hands!

Re: Door sag....

When using the engine hoist and straps, it might be helpful to have a small 2x4 handy. I'm not sure about the GFX on the door of the Camaros, but on the '91-92 Trans Am the straps hit the door GFX and would have caused damage to the GFX if I had put any of the door's weight on them. I used a small 2x4 under the body of the door to keep the strap from putting strain on the GFX. Hope that helps.

Re: Door sag....

Did you get the TDS kit? Do you have a dremmel? In the directions it says to sand the hinge do remove any corrosion to get the bushing to fit. The sandpaper they provide didn't cut it on mine. I ended up using a sanding drum on a dremmel to get the bushing to fit properly. DO NOT force that bushing in there or the pin won't fit and you've effectively destroyed the bushing.

No what Im trying to say is that when I bought the car it already had an upper hinge pin. But it doesnt look like a pin at all, I think it is just a bolt... I feel like that my be my problem with door sag.

Re: Door sag....

If you have the money, I would strongly suggest you go ahead and get the TDS kit. Do the job once, and get it done the right way. You will be very happy with the results.

Can I still use the kit if it looks like someone has drilled out the top hinge to put in a huge bolt as a pin?

I think you may need to post a picture of what they did. Hopefully their 'fix' hasn't messed up the holes that the bushings go in.

Re: Door sag....

To me, it looks like they used somewhat correct bushings and just used a large bolt. Hard to say for certain. Do you have a set of calipers? If so, measure the outer diameter of that bushing. That should tell you if the TDS kit will still work.
