Rear Coil Noise

I have a 91 Z-28 convertible. When I jacked the rear end up to see if part of my suspension was broken (because I was hearing a muffled noise when I hit a bump in the road) I noticed the driver side coil was scraping against the trailing arm (I think) when I let the car down. Should there be a boot or cushion of some sort underneath the coils to avoid this scraping? The passenger side doesn't do it. Thanks!

Welcome to TGO, cvicha.

There is an isolator on top of the spring. The lower portion of the spring simply sits on the axle without benefit of an isolator.

Re: Rear Coil Noise

Thanks for the info. I tried greasing the bottom of the coil. That lasted for about three days and we are back to the noise again. I wonder if replacing the coils would help?

Re: Rear Coil Noise

Most likely the rear shocks were replaced and the mechanic didn't get the spring located in the upper spring perch inside the rear frame rail properly.
