I replaced my hood struts with parts from a parts house (about $40/pr). I really didn't think about it for awhile but those are made for a steel hood and i've got an '83 Z28. Everyone knows what that means...sheet molded composite hood. now i whince everytime i shut my hood because i know it's gotta be bad to put that much force on them. Anyone have a source for the struts that are designed for use with the fiberglass hood? besides gm, i know they'd cost an arm and a leg, and be discontinued, etc.

1404 7974 is the factory part number for those,, you can have a local parts store cross reference them for you to get a replacement
or
I saw someone on here reccommend going to the junkyard and getting the worn out struts off of car with a steel hood,, the aren't storng enough to lift the weight of a steel hood but are for a fiberglass one. hope that helps

yeah get a set of hood struts from a steel hood car thats wore out i jus bought a new set for my steel hood then i bought a glass hood steel ones were to strong for my glass hood soi saw somebody at a gas station proping up there ta hood with a stick so i asked him if he wanted to trade his wore out ones for a set of new ones he thought i was crazy lol good luck RON
