The hardest part is putting the window in with the track on it. Everything else, you cut the rivets off with a grinder and knock them into the door. You can either get new rivets or 1/4" bolts to put the guts back in. Before anyone says anything about bolts, my passenger's side door had EVERYTHING including the window bolted in between 2005 and 2011 and I never had a problem (window was bolted to the track when I bought the car). And that's the way I've done the swap on the 88, but with the right bolts.

Take the track off. It makes it so much easier and you do not run the risk of scratching up the A pillar (I found out the hard way)

Don't take the track off... It takes seconds to put some sort of padding on the A-pillar (don't know how you could damage it if the door is wide open, but). And make sure to mark the holes on the replacement door shell so you know where the rivets/bolts are going to go. The power door lock motor holes are obvious (if equipped), but there are 2 sets of holes for the door pull handle and the window regulator depending on interior options (Camaro/base door panels and GTA deluxe panels, power and manual windows all have different holes).

Taking the window off with the track attached is a project. The glass and track do not want to slip out together without some serious effort. I took one side out with it attached, and fumbled around with it for a few hours. I thought the window was going to break a few times. The window has to touch the A pillar to come out. After messing with that forever, I drilled out the rivets and removed the window like a gentleman in 10 minutes counting the time to drill out the rivets. When I reassemble them, all I have to do is put the track in and put a couple of rivets to hold it to the glass. It's not worth the effort. If you distort the door to remove the track by using a wedge to hold open the top you could probably slip it out easier. But taking out the rivets is simple, and if you do not have a rivet gun, use a couple of stainless bolts and lock washers. No point in doing it the hard way.

Guess you mean that there's no point in doing it the RIGHT way (you don't really believe they riveted the glass to the track inside the door?)... The whole window and track can be put in nose first at the back of the door. Got mine out of 4 doors and back in 2 that way. No wedges. It would have taken way less time if I wasn't trying to put the glass onto the regulator while I was putting it in. The glass can go into the door in less than 5 minutes with the track attached, and the regulator to the glass track in about 10, including bolting/riveting it in place (just swapped 2 doors from manual to power so I know what I'm talking about). Even easier if the door is laying on its side in the grass or on a pad of some sort so you aren't fighting gravity pulling the window down while you're trying to line up the regulator with the holes in the door and the other track.
Plus, you don't run the risk of shattering the window overtightening the bolts/screws on the track.

Knock yourself out. I prefer my method. I am not going to run the risk of scratching fresh paint when I get the car back. I would rather run the risk of braking a window, which I doubt will happen.
