Re: Door dent guards

Depends on where you park your car.

Funny thing on the other hand. The previous owner of my '91 Firebird painted it in a "burnt copper" color. He also took off the body side moldings. I have never had a dent yet in the two years I have owned the car. I think that between it being so different and a "classic" (whole new debate LOL), that people are extra careful around it.

Re: Door dent guards

If you're talking about body side molding, leave it, the cars look cheap/something missing when it's not there. If you're talking about door edge guards, I think they're tacky.

Re: Door dent guards

I have a few impacts on the door guards on mine and the door is dinged beneath them, so unless it is just a little tap, I have been frustrated by the limited protection. I think if you take them off and block sand to the body line properly, you will have a crisp, clean body line that would look good without the guards. Just park uphill in the grocery store parking lot!

I agree on the parking on a high spot in a parking lot. I hate WalMart, but when it's time to buy ammo, I find a high spot in the lot, usually in the back of this lot, and park there so shopping carts don't hit my truck. I'd also suggest leaving them there only because they break up the door and fender/quarter.

Re: Door dent guards

Well I'm leavin mine off, the were cracked and not worth fixing, plus it looks alot better with them off, I'd rather look at a good body line than a cheap molding

Re: Door dent guards

Heres with the side protector gone on my DD. There is a strip of protective trim (door edge guard)on the outer edge of the door that was painted at the same time as the car about 4 years ago.(painted off of the car than applied after everything was ready to reinstall, ground effects, front clip/bumper cover, etc.)

Well the idea of parking uphill would be so that whoever parks next to you has to hold the door open and if they have half a brain will try and avoid hitting yours with their door. But if they were to back in next to you they would be facing downhill and their door would be swung open by gravity and then smack your beautiful door ding guardless body line.

Also on a side note, ive noticed on some cars they don't have notches that the door violently swings to but instead they simply hold themselves in any position. Mostly on bmws and such. Would be cool to retrofit a hinge like that on my car instead to make it easier to control the door when opening.

Re: Door dent guards

Leave them off and just park far away like i do. Chips you cannot help, but door dings you can. I never park around any cars, carts ot anything that can hit my cars. My new car has some stone chips from the freeway, but no door dings plus walking is good for you.
