door gaps

This is kind of a hard one to explain. I bought an 83 firebird updated to look like an 88. Only one problem. The rear edge edge of the fenders seems to stick out farther than the front of the doors. It has the correct 88 T/A bumper which mates perfectly with the front edge of the fenders. Are the newer fenders "wider" thatn the old thus making the alibnment problems. Any help and sugestions would be greatly appreciated.

I had a similar problem with my Camaro. Where the fender is bolted to the rest of the body under the car, had been smashed. This pushed the fender outwards and created a gap. I just pryed that piece back to where it was supposed to be, and the fender matched up to the door perfectly.
