Re: hawks wrap around spoiler

Can you post pictures of how it looks and the issues you are having?

Here is a thread I made on installing my fiberglass replacement. It didnt get much attention, but maybe there are some pics in there that will help you out.

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/body...r-spoiler.html

But get some pics up... its hard to know exactly what youre working with without them.

Re: hawks wrap around spoiler

Oh yeah... It was sold pretty quick. It was the nicest non-painted spoiler Ide seen. Garage kept car with only 30k on it. So it was darn near perfect. Didnt like getting rid of it, but I knew what it would look like after sitting outside and me running the car in weather. So I got out while I could and someone restoring an 86 scooped it up.

My stock spoiler is shot, worst part of my car for sure. I want to get the Hawks spoiler when I paint the car, but I want it to fit right. My car is an 87 so I have the third brake light under the spoler. My light does not work so not sure it matters are thing point LOL! The bulbs are good and I cleaned the contacts on the hatch switch and pad-still no light.

I just got done putting one of hawks wings on an '87. Brake light fit perfect and wouldn't be scared to get a wing from Hawks.

Re: hawks wrap around spoiler

This wing took me so many hours to get it to fit right. Mine was almost 1/2-3/4" short on the one side. I had to cut the wing in half to get it to fit because Hawlk told me I could send it back but would have to pay for shipping and there was no guarantee the replacement would fit better. The wing is a cheep POS! But with that said after many hours of fiber glass manipulation using West systems epoxy I was able to get it to fit great and it weighs so much less then the factory.

See this is what I don't want to deal with. I try not to get fiderglass parts if at all possable, but also don't like the stock rubber spoiler as they crack and bubble like mine.

I didn't have a problem with mine, I've had it on about two years now.

When you close your hatch, their is a piece that comes in contact with the pull down switch it has three or four contacts on it,it has a spring clip to it,make sure that that,is coming in contact with the switch, stick a piece of cardboard under it so it makes contact. That should give you brake lights.

Re: hawks wrap around spoiler

My 87's under spoiler third brake light used to always flake out. I found that the spring loaded contact switch got slightly worn out. So I ended up jambing something in the one spring contact to keep it in the "down" position more. Actually if you look in my spoiler thread, of the picture of the switch on my 87, you can see the little green piece of plastic I used haha. You can also adjust those. The decklid can become, or be out of alignment, and it'll make the switch not contact properly. So you can loosen the switch bolts and move it slightly.

Its odd that some people have such horrible fitment issues. I can see a little bit off here and there...but man.

I got my spoiler second hand. The guy I got it from had it sitting in his garage for I dont know how long. I went to buy a hood and head lights from him when I was thinking about fixing my black car. Saw it sitting there...and got it for such a good price. Had the little clips with it and all.

So even afte rjust sitting propped up in the garage it was still almost a perfect fit. I did need to muscle it into place a little, but not too bad.

Here are a couple pictures I took just sitting the fiberglass spoiler on top of my stocker. This shows how close it is without forcing it into shape.

This is laying directly on the hatch, but not bolted. It sat pretty nice, but the arms were spread slightly.

Heres my link to my Fiberglass troubles. Its mostly on my hood, but you can see the heavy work I had to do to the center of the wing. Mine also cracked on the inside radius on the RH side. Started with a paint bubble, then blew off one day and bam! Crack in the fiberglass. For the ~$400 it cost for this wing the work I had to do for it was insane. But also like its being said some fit, some don't. Mine unfortunately did not, and I was not about to spend another 150 to ship it round trip on the chance it would fit better.
Its the nature of the beast, how many fiberglass parts for these cars just fit perfect? Usually involves large oval holes, body shims, and some rough sandpaper.

Ok I will try putting something behind the spring clip. I cleaned the contacts with 1000 grit sand paper and then whiped them off. There are 4 little contact plates on the car, but my spring clip only has 2 contacts on it, both outters.

Re: hawks wrap around spoiler

Thats all most of the cars have on them. I think the middle two might be for cars with rear wiper option.
