Out with the old carpet in with the NEW

I've pulled out my old carpet and am ready to put in the new. One prob. There wasn't any "rubber" dampner layer underneath?? I thought our cars had a sound dampner layer underneath the jute and carpet? Any ideas? I don't want to just drop down carpet and jute. That'd be a moisture magnet right?

The original carpet had the sound deadener molded to it, kind of a one-piece deal. The aftermarket stuff doesn't have it as you've figured out, so you have to get it separately. It shouldn't matter if you put the jute padding right on the floorboard as that's the way it was originally anyway. The aftermarket carpet has that thin plastic lining to help keep moisture from going through it, although I don't know if it really does any good as I have original carpet in mine.
