Sorry, not sure where to really put this. I have a base model 86V6 and currently spend $130 for full insurance. I was thinking about upgrading to 91-92Z28, but was wondering what the increase in cost would be...thanks
p.s. I am 18

Hey 86V6, keep the car with the V6 and put a V8 in. You don't "really" have to report it!! If not that route, just keep the V6, register that, and switch the VIN on the dash, and the licence plates. Or just be honest, and go under your relatives name. The older, the better.

What exactly are you trying to say? Maybe you need to go back to school, and maybe learn some english, because you sound way too immature to be driving. But i guess anyone can get there license these days. No wonder why other people 16-25 and myself pay insane insurance rates, with people like you on the road i can understand it.

Insurance is insane just for having an "IROC" sticker on the side of your car. I had an 87 Z28 which actually has more power stock than my 89 IROC and virtually the same engine and other specs and the difference in insurance was amazing. The thing I HATE about insurance companies, is that they don't really take much risk. They risk covering you for a premium, and that premium is high because you're in the "high-risk" group. Ok that makes perfect sense. But then when you get caught speeding your rates go up more!! Wasn't that the reason you were paying higher premiums in the first place? Because they knew you would speed? The only real risks they take are that you'll really f*** yourself or someone else up and max out your coverage but how often does that happen. I HATE insurance companies!

I am 19 and pay 179 a month full coverage on my 87 IROC Z. The insurance on a 92 was going to cost me 192.xx a month. It wasn't that much more but the IROC drove tighter and better so I bought it.

I have a 92 RS (V6) and pay 75 a month for liability, I'm 19. As for the teen guys speeding I'm real sick of taking the rap for all the 30 year olds driving Honda's, 50 year olds driving Cadilac's and really pissed off soccer moms driving mini-vans who all fly by me going around 85 every day while I drive to work on the expressway, while I do around 65-75, 65 being the speed limit. I just recently switched to progressive insurance i was paying around 98 a month on a POS 85 Camaro for just liability, that was with State Farm... They raised my insurance 3 consecutive times even though i was with them 1 1/2 years and had no tickects and no accidents... thier BS reasoning was "we are adjusting premiums to fit everyone's needs" I believe it was that multi million dollar lawsuit they lost for letting crap parts be used for replacements on the claims they paid, Well anyway thats my ranting, I wrote a dang book now. ah well. I think the thing that tops it all off is being followed by the police for having a nice looking car, that = you are a speeder around here to cops i guess. So now i'm totally off the original topic here but what the hell it's 1 am what'd you expect?

sorry bout that, im lookin back on that, and MAN was i oughta it,
I occasional race, but im Very careful bout it, im very paranoid bout my driving, the old lady part was thrown in there cause when i was driving my old car, i was drivin down the road, and out of the blue literally, in traffic some geezer just stepped out in front without pausing, it was 35 with about 30 Feet, (im not sure, it was kinda spontaneous) and i nearly hit her, she didnt even notice someone slamming there brakes comin two feet infront of her, she didnt even look, i wanted to knock someone that stupid.

And my driving, im very, very hard on myself, i once pulled my neck very bad, i touched, just touched the curb with my tire, and i flipped, i love my car, and push myself to be the best so i can taker care of it. and yes i can feel what your sayin about the dumbarses who jack up our prices, i was in an accident because of one, that wanted to move foward one spot in traffic.
im sorry again for sounding like an idiiot, i was in a hurry, and had to leave. but again, to those ive offended with my crappy post my apologies.

And to those cops who harrass those who drive third's for fun. can bite my butt. : )

I know im naughty for suggesting this, but has anyone ever modified their VIN to say their camaro has a v6 instead of a v8? i know there is a check code, and its easily cracked (gotta change more than the 8th digit!)

just wondering if it made a diffrence in price.

I currently pay $107 a month, for my 89 RS, V8. Its just for liability, so I suppose its worth it. Lots of companies wanted me to pay $250+ a month, so I basically said screw them.

**Update**
Oh yeah, and I just turned 19.

I called up my insurance company and asked them if my insurance would change if I changed motors in my Camaro (originally 2.8) and the guy said "We just go by the VIN number".....

Now I've got a crate 350 in it.

Man, all of you should be so lucky, try living in NJ it f*cking sucks, on my 88 iroc i paid 3200$ a year for full coverage on my own policy, for my 91z they wanted 3800$ a year, so i switched insurance companies and now i am paying 3500$ a year (1746 every 6 months to be exact).. tell me that is not rediculous! I wish i could use most of my money on mods but instead im saving for insurance =(

Ha, atleast we have something better up here in Finland

I pay insurance with full coverage (I mean it covers everything, even towing, if my ride happens to quit..) only $40 a month
And without all that coverage ****, its only like $10 a month...

Oh well, lets NOT talk about the price of gas...

Gotta weigh in here. There is a mantra everyone needs to repeat, over and over: Insurance companies are evil, Insurance companies are evil, Insurance companies are evil. Not an opinion, just cold hard fact. It is a simple business model that gives them a license to print money. Here's how it works: 1/3 of the insurance company is dedicated to lobbying the government to allow them to charge you higher premiums; 1/3 of the company is dedicated to investing those premiums to make as much money for the company as possible; and finally, 1/3 of the company is dedicated to making sure you get as little money as possible if you have to make a claim. That's how it works!
