8" black stubby antenna on 84 Camaro? Yay or Nay?
I was looking around on ebay and found a 8 inch stubby antenna that will fit my 84 camaro. Basically wondering what you guys think about using a stubby antenna and how you think it will look? Seen a few with the antenna shaved and looked good. Can get one new for under $20. Thanks in advance for any input.
here's the one I am looking at.

yes it does mean something different, means keeping things on the down low, quiet, off the radar etc.

some one stole my original so I purchased one of the aluminum 8" and honestly have never had anyone even notice its shorter. It looks good to me though but does change the reception of any long distance radio stations

I have a 12" black antenna on my TA, the stock one is so tall. I saved the old one, but never use it. Autozone has the 12" I have and I like them so much I have one on my truck as well. It look stock, but shorter.

I hate the tall stock ones....I just took the dremel to mine, and cut it down to a more respectable (to me) height, and put a black rubber cap over the end...Looks alot better and fits the look of the car IMO...................

I got one of those chrome Autozone "billet" ones about 5 years ago and sprayed it satin black... Its about 18" tall, but I like it much better than the stock, super tall one.

I personally like either shaved or really long antenna, the short ones are just too short.

Re: 8" black stubby antenna on 84 Camaro? Yay or Nay?
For Perfect reception, your antenna should be almost exactly one of the following lengths (starting at a full wave)
119" (Full Wave)
59.5" (Half Wave)
29.75" (Quarter Wave)
14.875" (1/8 Wave, Most stock car antennas)
7.43" (1/16 Wave, some aftermarket antennas)
3.7" (1/32 Wave)
1.8" (1/64 Wave)
You can have +/- about 5-7% length on average, which will still pick up good signals. These calculations are using 98mhz as the frequency, which is right in the middle of the spectrum. If you want to pick up lower frequencies better (87-95mhz), shave 2-3% off extra, if you want to pick up the higher frequencies better (103-108mhz), keep an extra 2-3% of length.
The smaller the antenna, the more exact the length needs to be for perfect reception

This thread is over 8 years old so it's anyone's guess if original poster even owns a thirdgen anymore.
However, I went with the hidden antenna on my 1985 and put it right under dash pad. Theoretically the best place for it, but it does not have nearly as good reception as the 8" stubby on my wife's thirdgen or the stubby on my previous thirdgen.
