Does anyone know if this can be replaced by itself, or is it an "integral" part of the shifter cover plate and that whole piece has to be swapped out. Reason I'm asking is because I want to replace mine because of the worn letters... Thanks...

yeah I do have a same problem and i can not find that letters and I make my order complete kit plate w/ ashtray it's not that expensive and looks beautiful.

 

Just replaced one in my 88 GTA with one a couple of months ago. I agree, it is alot nicer looking setup. You really notice a big difference at night with that lighted pointer. If I remember correctly, the whole bottom piece is different and the bottom of the shifter boot sits flush with the top of the cover plate. Very nice look.
