Junkyard Dash Board

In the next few weeks I'm gonna go around to a few junkyards and see if I can find a dash board in decent condition. Mine has about 5 or 6 cracks that run from front to back and look horrible. About how much should I expect to pay for one in decent shape? I really don't wanna spend a fortune on one or I'd get a new one.

I paid $40 for one at a local yard here, but ended up taking it back because nobody informed me of the subtle difference between Camaro and Firebird dash pads.

Keep looking and keep in mind a new one is $250 and a plastic snap-on cover is $99 so you definitely don't want to go over either of those numbers for a used and most likely weathered replacement.

I paid 50 bucks for mine and it is perfect. I found that the key thing when pulling parts from the yard is look for coupes and not t-top cars.

Thanks so far! I was expecting something in the $40 range. I also need to look for the bottom plastic panel on the passengers side that covers some wires. Mine has been missing that since I got the car and I didn't realize it until I rode around in my friends 85.

Jason, if you find one with small cracks in a not-too-noticable area, you could use the dashpad repair kit. My dash cracked in my accident when the windsheild tore it up, in the front right corner, about an inch away from the a-pillar. The dash kit fixed it up pretty nicely.

I bought the Permatex "expert" one for $15, it included a little electric heating iron. The cheaper $7 one includes a piece of metal that you hold against a "real" iron (for clothes) until it gets hot.
