Door lock

A while back i was unlocking my car, when the entire lock cylinder came out with the key. It had been loost before, but it justcame out in my hand. It was still connected to the lock by a rod, but it was still pretty wierd. The lock still works fine, but every time I use it, it comes out. How do I go about fixing this so I don't have to worry about crawling through the hatch to get in my car. (The passenger lock dosen't work at all.) Any help would be appreciated, because I really don't like the idea of getting in through the hatch in the middle of my school parking lot! thanks alot. Evan

It sounds like it is time for you to replace the door lock mechanisms. Classic Industries sells a complete lock set for $59.85 (doors, hatch, & storage compartment) so all the locks have a common key still. Or you can replace only the door sets for $24.95 a pair. You will have to pull the inner trim panel to replace them. I bought a set for my Iroc I am restoring, but haven't installed it yet.

The locks are simple in theory, but can be a bitch. Basically the lock cylinder uses a spring clip on the back side of the door skin that holds it in place. Most likely that clip broke or came off. The PITA is reaching inside the door far enough and pushing the spring clip into the slot on the lock cylinder.

Good luck.

yep, just that clip, get a new one if you can't fund it in the door and while you've got the door pannel off, do any window adjustments you may have to do, maybe fix rattles if you have them

Wow man. Your poor car! Is it giving the motor juice, just not moving? Or is it not getting juice at all? The right way to tell would be to hook up a meter to the wires or motor and see if there's power when you hit the up switch, or you can just do it the ******* way and see if your headlights dim when you push it.

Yeah I know. It is turning into a POS every day. But, I just got a job, so it should be fine soon. It gets really cold though!. When you hit the switch, nothing happens at all, no noise or anything. The switch sounds like it is grinding or broken. I think that is the problem, the switch is dead. I am probably going to replace.
