Reducer substitute?

Hey all. Hoping someone out there has advanced knowledge of basecoat/reducer. I'm painting with Sherwin Dimensions 6B base, and one of my kids tipped over my can of reducer, cap wasn't on tight (my fault) and it went all over the garage floor. So it's Saturday, jobber is closed, and I have no reducer (was using the DR734 as on data sheet). Is there anything I can use as a suitable sub that will give me good results? We have a CarQuest nearby that sells Dupont and some other generic stuff. I may be able to get a generic reducer, but don't know if I should do that...

It's too bad jobbers aren't open on Saturday for us hobbyists!

Re: Reducer substitute?

Dont know on that brand, depends on what their base is. Some are acrylic, some urethane. At my Work they have use use centari reducer (enamel) with imron (urethane) and it works ok but i would not recomend it.
Oh well it is sun now so you probably got a plan now.

Re: Reducer substitute?

I'm stopping at my jobber on my way home from work today, get the 'real' stuff. Put it off for the weekend.

Thanks for the reply though!

Re: Reducer substitute?

Yes enamel reducer works with urethane and vise versa. Not specifically made for it but you can do it in a pinch if you have to do something small on the side. Same with hardener they have universal as well as single stage uerethane, single stage enamel, bc/cc type ect. They are made to work best when used with the same type paint but they all do technically "work" with each other.
