17x9 wheels

Will I need any spacers to fit 17x9 wheels on? What are the specs I should work with?

depends on the offset you choose. The width and diameter has nothing to do with whether you'll need spacers or not.

Whats the maximum amount of offset I can choose that does not require spacers?

if you are planning to use 4th gen wheels, then yes you will need spacers , 2.25" in the front and 1.25" in the rear

I'm planning on using Primax 460 wheels. 17x8

I don't know the offset yet..

You can go with 5.5 inches of backspacing. With this rim you can run 275/40R17 tires, and they won't rub. They won't rub even if your car is lowered an inch or so! One small problem; you may have to grind your outer tie rod ends to gain clearance. This is REALLY unlikely, but it is possible. By the way, American Racing makes Torque Thrust 2's in a custom 5.5" backspacing that meets this application. These rims look bad as hell with our cars!
