Rear Hatch Pull Down Motor for 1988 Firebird.
I have replaced the motor to the hatch pull down. It worked one time - then nothing. I think I am missing part of the sensor that attaches to the hatch itself. Is there such a piece? There is an indentation in the hatch molding, but nothing there. It would match up with the metal plate to the left of the pull down motor. If there is a piece that needs to be there - what is it called and do you know the part number?
You don't mean the third brake light contact thing huh?

No, that has nothing to do with the pull-down mechanism, if you mean that metal sheet what is splitted four pieces.?

The pull down motor has nothing to do with those 4 metal tabs. There's a little plastic widget right next to the latch that operates the motor. In my GTA the motor would come up but then wouldn't go back down. It turned out to be internal to the motor, so I just swapped the whole assembly with my 86 SC.

Thanks Guys, I figured out what was wrong - the hydraulic arms that hold the hatch up are too weak to let the hatch clear the switch in the pull down mechanism - so looks like I need new hydraulics. Thanks again.
