Power window failure, motor or regulator??
Hi Guy's,
I've had a look through some of the threads but none seem to have the problem I've got. My passenger side window is stuck down, now when I push the button to close it, nothing happens. If I put the overhead dome light on and push the switch up/down I can see it very slightly dimming as if power is going to the motor, but it's not working. The motor makes no sound at all and I've tried to lift the window by hand (which I assume you have to do to change the motor/regulator?) but it won't budge!
Which part do you guy's think is wrong, and has anyone else had the problem of not being able to lift the window by hand?
All the best, Speed.

I can't see the problem being the regulator. You need to take the door apart and get a look at what is going on. If the motor is good and there is no movement, something might need greasing. The only way to find that out is getting a good look inside. There are several tracks that the regulator rides on and as time goes by, dirt gets stuck into the grease in the tracks making the window slower. But usually you still have some movement.
The replacement motors are cheap enough that I would change it out if it is original and clean and regrease the regulator and tracks. Just be careful when you remove the motor from the regulator as that spring on the regulator can do some damage if you don't secure the arm.

Does the Driver's side window work well? If so, then try swapping the window switches. Then you'll know whether it's the switch or the motor.

Thanks for the replies guy's,
In answer to gearheads question, yep the drivers side works just fine, I've taken it that when I push the switch and the light dims, then the switch is working, although I haven't put a volt meter against it yet.
I think I'm going to have to do what 82 say's and get the door card off as thats the only way to go about it.
Will it be possible to remove the motor/regulator with the window down though?
Speed.

Re: Power window failure, motor or regulator??
You could test the wire going to the motor with a test light to see if there's power going to the window motor. If there is and the regulator looks fine, then the window motor may have gone bad. Hope this helps you out.

Secure that part the motor turns. Dont let the spring behind that go free!
Otherwise your gonna need to remove the window from the track, to put the tracks back together.

Re: Power window failure, motor or regulator??
Thanks for the heads up 1A Tony & ZF6CamaroZZ4,
I've currently got a motor on order at Rockauto as I do have power at the motor. Going to have a look at it this weekend as I've been busy with work all week! The weather's been really poor over here and isn't expected to get any better over the bank holiday, so I'm going to have to work on the car in the cramped garage! Wish me luck!!

Re: Power window failure, motor or regulator??
Ok guy's an update,
So I got my new motor, but before I took the old one out I decided to unplug the old one in situ and plug the new one in just to see if it would go up/down.
Guess what, the new motor worked when I pushed down, but nothing when I pushed up!! ARRGHH!!
So I thought it MUST be the switch afterall, even though I tested it for power before.
So I pulled the console and swapped the right (not working) switch and plugged it into the left (working) connector. It worked fine, left window went up and down. I put the working left switch into the right connector and hey presto, it didn't work.
So I tested the wires for continuity at both left and right connectors in the console and they all check out the same, I also checked for voltage at the pink wires of both and get 12V there.
I'm running out of ideas, any you guy's got anything else I can try?
